ANSYS, Inc. seeks Applications Engineering, Sr. Staff Engineer to work in Austin, TX
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the deployment and support of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the Lead Application Engineer will use expertise to develop strategic technical campaigns, negotiate success criteria and provide refined requirements to drive exciting new product features to meet business objectives. Specific job duties include, develop competence in a product area and be recognized as a regional expert; Lead technical campaigns to successful completion; Work independently and as a member of a team and motivate others; Develop and deliver training/education to customers; Be a mentor for junior levels; Negotiate success criteria with customers for critical technical campaigns; Provide neat, accurate, and thorough work in a timely manner; and Complete assignments without specific directions, recognize problems, and apply or suggest viable solutions.
Additional job duties include: Deep domain knowledge of voltage drop, electromigration, KCL/KVL, extraction, and circuit solving. The engineer works on VLSI EDA backend (post-layout) tools and software, including Totem, Totem-SC, Pathfinder, Pathfinder-SC, and Redhawk-SC, focused on enabling accurate analysis and design closure for complex SoCs. ASIC/SoC physical design, custom circuit design, and power, signal, and reliability integrity to support product deployment and chip design sign-off address power, signal, and reliability challenges at advanced nodes including 10nm, 7nm, 5nm, and 3nm. The equipment, system and technological Products including working on VLSI EDA backend (post-layout) tools and software, including Totem, Totem-SC, Pathfinder, Pathfinder-SC, and Redhawk-SC, focused on enabling accurate analysis and design closure for complex SoCs. The role supports advanced technology nodes such as 3nm, 2nm, A14, and beyond, ensuring software readiness for new PDKs and next-generation manufacturing processes. Responsibilities include leading technical evaluations to understand customer requirements and inputs, defining correct and scalable workflows, and authoring detailed specification documents for future software releases. Develop fully automated end-to-end workflows that allow customers to run tools efficiently and generate actionable results. This includes ensuring all upstream and downstream tools integrate seamlessly, produce required reports, and feed correctly into the overall workflow. Deep domain knowledge of voltage drop, electromigration, KCL/KVL, extraction, and circuit solving is applied to resolve customer issues and enable correct and effective software usage. The role leverages expertise in ASIC/SoC physical design, custom circuit design, and power, signal, and reliability integrity to support product deployment and chip design sign-off. The Lead Application Engineer works directly with customers to address power, signal, and reliability challenges at advanced nodes including 10nm, 7nm, 5nm, and 3nm. As a domain expert, the engineer provides technical consultation to optimize system-level reliability, performance, and cost. Collaboration with customers, IP providers, and foundries is central to understanding design challenges for emerging applications and technology nodes (7nm and beyond) and translating those needs into EDA specifications. The Lead Application Engineer also partners closely with R&D teams to develop, enhance, and validate products on the Ansys Seascape platform, ensuring high-quality software releases to
customers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a related field of study, and six (6) years of experience in a related position.
• Alternate Acceptable Education and Work Experience Requirement: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field of study, and eight (8) years of experience in a related position.
• Work experience or academic coursework must have included:
• Experience with TCL and Python;
• Experience with semiconductor and systems design specializing in digital, analog, Mixed-Signal and RF;
• Experience with large-scale commercial software support;
• Experience with simulation methodologies, running simulation benchmarks, modeling and simulation of engineered products and processes; and
• Experience with triage workflow issues
• Additional work location information: May permit telecommuting from home office within commuting distance to Austin, TX. In office 2 days a week.
RATE OF PAY: $173,000 per year
