Summary / Role Purpose
The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of LS-DYNA and related software products. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives. To be considered for this position, successful candidates must have an in-depth understanding of finite element method and related computational mechanics principles, strong programming skills, adequate academic or industrial experience in the related fields, and ability to work efficiently in a collaborative team environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems
Understands and employs best practices
Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues
Works under the general supervision of a development manager
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of professional experience, or Master’s Degree in Aerospace, Biomechanical, Mechanical Engineering, or other natural science discipline
Working experience with technical software development proven by academic, research, or industry projects. Good understanding and skills in programming.
MUST be located (or able to relocate) to Livermore, CA onsite at our Ansys office (hybrid working schedule is allowed)
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
Master’s Degree or PhD Preferred
Technical knowledge and experience with finite element simulation (e.g. LS-DYNA, Ansys), and CAD modeling.
Background in computational solid mechanics, numerical methods, and preferably on high-performance computing on C/GPUs.
Knowledge of fluid mechanics, electromagnetics, computational geometry, or computer graphics is an advantage but not a must.
Experience with Fortran or C
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
