Descriptions & Requirements
We Are:
At Synopsys, we drive the innovations that shape the way we live and connect. Our technology is central to the Era of Pervasive Intelligence, from self-driving cars to learning machines. We lead in chip design, verification, and IP integration, empowering the creation of high-performance silicon chips and software content. Join us to transform the future through continuous technological innovation.
You Are:
You are a passionate, hands-on engineer with a deep commitment to reliability, safety, and continuous improvement in AI-driven systems. You thrive in environments where innovation meets operational excellence, bringing a pragmatic yet creative approach to solving complex challenges. You have a strong foundation in software engineering, particularly in backend development, and are adept at building production-grade AI agents that automate and elevate enterprise workflows. Your experience with LLMs and agent frameworks allows you to translate ambiguous operational problems into robust, measurable solutions. You are collaborative and curious, comfortable partnering with cross-functional teams, including product, security, and platform, to deliver secure and scalable agent capabilities. You embrace the responsibility of owning agent reliability, designing systems that are observable, auditable, and resilient. Your mindset is production-oriented, always considering cost, latency, and quality trade-offs, and you are eager to iterate quickly based on real user feedback. You are self-directed and detail-oriented, with strong engineering judgment and a readiness to raise the bar for agent trust and reliability. You value diversity and inclusivity, knowing that a wide range of perspectives leads to better solutions for all. If you are excited by the opportunity to shape the future of enterprise AI and deliver meaningful impact at scale, Synopsys is the place for you.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design, build, and iterate on production AI agents—both single and multi-agent—that can reason, plan, and execute actions across enterprise workflows.
- Implement robust tool-use by defining tool schemas/function calling, integrating with internal APIs, and enforcing permissions, rate limits, and safe retries.
- Build agent orchestration and state management (conversation context, memory, task state, handoffs) using agent frameworks or custom orchestration solutions.
- Develop high-quality retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and knowledge-access patterns to ground agents on enterprise data with freshness, citation, and attribution.
- Own agent reliability by establishing observability (traces, token/latency/cost), error handling, fallback strategies, and continuous improvement based on production feedback.
- Create evaluation harnesses and quality gates (golden tasks, automated regression tests, red teaming) to measure accuracy, safety, and business impact.
- Partner with product, security, and platform teams to ship secure agent capabilities, including guardrails, prompt-injection defenses, and audit logs.
- Deliver agent experiences that automate complex operational tasks end-to-end, reducing toil and improving service quality for enterprise users.
The Impact You Will Have:
- Raise the bar on agent reliability and trust through measurable evaluations, guardrails, and continuous iteration.
- Enable faster incident triage and remediation by equipping AI agents to interpret telemetry and execute approved runbooks safely.
- Accelerate delivery of new agent capabilities by standardizing patterns for tool-use, memory, orchestration, and deployment.
- Improve decision-making and visibility by producing grounded, auditable outputs with citations and traceable actions.
- Drive operational excellence by automating complex, repetitive tasks, freeing up your colleagues to focus on higher-value activities.
- Contribute directly to Synopsys’ leadership in enterprise AI by building scalable, secure, and trusted agent solutions that power our global operations.
What You’ll Need:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including shipping production services (Python preferred; other strong backend experience welcome).
- Hands-on experience building LLM applications/agents: prompt design, tool/function calling, structured outputs, and conversation state management.
- Experience with at least one agent framework (LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, LangChain, CrewAI, or equivalent custom orchestration).
- Strong grounding/RAG experience: retrieval design, chunking, embeddings, re-ranking, and evaluation of grounded answers.
- Experience building evaluation and testing for LLM systems (golden datasets, offline/online metrics, regression tests, A/B experiments).
- Knowledge of safety and security for agents: prompt injection, data exfiltration risks, least-privilege tool access, and auditability.
- Production engineering mindset: observability, incident response, performance/cost optimization, and reliable deployments.
- Bonus: Experience integrating enterprise tools/APIs (ticketing, monitoring, CI/CD, cloud) and building secure tool gateways/registries (e.g., MCP).
Who You Are:
- A hands-on builder who enjoys taking an agent from prototype to production and iterating quickly with real users.
- Comfortable working across LLM behaviour (prompts/orchestration/evals) and backend engineering (APIs, data, services).
- Pragmatic about safety and reliability, and willing to add guardrails, tests, and observability—not just demos.
- Collaborative and curious, able to translate ambiguous operational problems into agent workflows with measurable success criteria.
- Self-directed and detail-oriented, with strong engineering judgment on tradeoffs (quality vs. latency vs. cost).
- Inclusive and open-minded, valuing diverse perspectives for innovative solutions.
